Fitness is important to me, particularly after my experience working in Cardiology at the local hospital, so I go to the gym or swim most weekdays.

A number of new Nautilus Treadclimber cardio machines have been installed in the gym recently - and I’ve tried them out a few times.

The TreadClimber really does give you a great workout. I set the speed to 6km/hr and just use the standard program which sets the treadles to minimum for 3 minutes and then increases them to max for a further three minutes. So you vary between min and max treadle heights every three minutes.

Even though I’m pretty fit, 30 minutes doing that routine at that speed is quite challenging, and it might even come close to Nautilus’ claims about to “2x the workout”.

Last night, though, I was 10 minutes into the program and I started to feel a pain in my left knee. I had to stop running a few years ago because of a similar pain, so perhaps my old knee injury was being resurrected by the TreadClimber. I stopped and got off.

As I use a heart rate monitor I needed that level of intensity on the TreadClimber, so I didn’t feel that I was “over-doing it”. It must just be the combined horizontal and vertical movements of the treadles that doesn’t suit me. I don’t get problems on normal treadmills.

So the TreadClimber is an excellent cardio machine, but its not one I’ll use again, which is a shame.

Its been over a year since since I last posted into this blog - a very busy year in which I became more heavily involved with finance, particularly with getting MoneyHighStreet.com off the ground.

To my horror, I almost lost this domain, but my registrar, NameCheap, saved it at the last minute. Almost losing my “name” domain made me realise that it was important to me and was worth developing, so I’ve dressed it in new clothes and updated it to the latest version of WordPress, and here I am back again!

The focus of this blog will change too. Finance and money matters as they affect consumers will play a central role now. Online marketing and technology will also feature as these are skills that I have developed over the years and may be of help to others too.

I’ve finally decided that I should join the millions publishing their own blog online.

I guess the main reason is that whilst researching and editing the news articles for SurvivingFlu.com I frequently feel that there is much more to say, however I don’t think it’s appropriate to mix my opinions with the news items on the site.

I had thought about an “editorial” section, which might have fitted the bill, but instead I decided to seperate my thoughts and opinions from the more objective nature of that site.

There are also subjects other than bird flu that I would like to write about, so starting a blog here gives me a broader canvas on which to paint my distorted view of the world - sorry!

Please share your views here - all comments are welcome and I need to be kept on the straight and narrow!
